Lanview is delighted to announce that Will Harvey has joined our team as Project Director. Below, Will describes his new role at Lanview, what project experience he brings, one of his favourite past projects and what he gets up to when he’s not at work!
Tell us about your new role?
As Project Director, my job is to develop existing client relationships and establish opportunities with new clients.
My focus will be on bringing programme and project management direction to the main contracting and sub-contracting side of the business and continuing to deliver outstanding projects.
What did you do before Lanview?
I have over 11 years of experience in main contracting and client liaison. I started out working for Tesco managing the installation of mobile phone shops followed by a complex equipping role working with Bouygues at a new-build acute NHS hospital in Chelmsford. I subsequently joined a specialist Italian shop fitter based in Italy where I jointly set up the UK principal contractor division for the company. Since then I have worked for RG Group, a specialist main contractor – and from there went through the main contracting mill into becoming an Employer’s Agent with Underwood Carpenter representing commercial clients.
In this role I was the External Project Manager for a number of live refurbishments for a major UK premium retail brand. Main contractors would report to me, and I was responsible for making decisions on the retailer’s behalf and representing their best interests. My most recent role was for MTS Health working with Skanska and the NHS on the new Royal Papworth Hospital in Cambridge, the world-renowned specialist heart and thoracic health hospital.
The experience I gained having worked both contractor and client-side has given me a unique perspective and knowledge which I aim to bring to my role at Lanview.
Before contracting, I worked for over 10 years in outdoor advertising for JCDecaux in business development. This involved maximising and managing corporate commercial accounts for clients including London Underground, Network Rail, Total Fina Elf, National Grid and Tesco.
Building strong working relationships with clients is important to me; in an industry where everyone knows everyone, reputation is key.
What made you want to work at Lanview?
Having worked with Lanview in the past, I know they are a fantastic company. It felt like the right fit. I like how the team are involved in every aspect of the project and offer a hands-on approach.
My client-side experience means I know the importance of delivering a project on time. Lanview offers great flexibility – on top of being a principal contractor, we can bring in our own employees dedicated to delivering to project completion deadlines.
Name a favourite project you worked on in the past?
There are so many but working on the New Broomfield A&E Hospital, as part of the Bouygues team, would be a highlight. This is also where my second daughter was born. I felt very proud of this project which involved creating an uplifting hospital experience.
What do you enjoy doing out of work?
Despite a lack of ability in other sports, I’m relatively competent at skiing and love to tumble down the Swiss and French Alps when I can, and my wife and I are teaching our children to ski. However, accidentally leaving my young daughter at the bottom of a ski lift on our first family ski trip this year wasn’t my best moment!
